KATHLEEN McDONAGH - Studio Director
Gyrotonic Trainer Level 1 & 2, Gyrokinesis Trainer, Jump-Stretching Board, Gyrotoner & Gyrokinesis Pre-Trainer
Kathleen first experienced the Gyrotonic Method in Florence, Italy in 1995 and returned 3 years later for a deeper training immersion. The infusion of this experience was to be a little renaissance of its own! She pursued further training with Master Trainers Magali Messac in Seattle, Debra Rose in SF, Matt Aversa in NYC and with the originator of the Gyrotonic Method, Juliu Horvath. She certified in both Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis method in 2000 becoming western Canada’s first trainer!
While still dancing professionally, Kathleen introduced this work to colleagues and clients in her early teaching years before transitioning fully to teaching. She opened her first studio, serving the vibrant community of Bowen Island from 2012 to 2020 and since January 2022 she has been the studio director here at Gravity Gyrotonic. Kathleen has been integral to the early rooting of this practice on the west coast; building community, being a part of the educational component of this work and sharing the practice in numerous settings with clients ranging in age from 12 to 96 years of age.
As often is said, our students are our teachers. Kathleen is grateful for the breadth and depth her clients have given her through the years as she considers it a privilege to support clients in their embodiment, restoring function and witnessing them access the fullest capacity of their body’s expression.

MONIQUE TANG
Gyrotonic Trainer Level 1 & 2, & Gyrotoner
Monique’s journey in mind-body movements started in 2000 when she was looking for something to help with her scoliosis. Having done ballet at a younger age, she found a natural appeal in the lengthening, dance-like movements of Pilates. Learning Pilates improved her body alignment and allowed her to find strength and ease in movement again. She went through comprehensive training with the PhysicalMind Institute and became a fully certified Pilates Instructor in 2006.
Around that time, Monique also started exploring the Gyrotonic Expansion System and was amazed at how it takes movement to another level - the circular and spiraling movements, the way it integrates the entire body with breath and energy, the continuous flow it creates and sustains... She completed training and became a certified Gyrotonic Trainer in 2007.
Monique combines her background in Educational Theatre with her knowledge and experience in Pilates and Gyrotonic method in teaching people of all ages and fitness levels. She aims to help clients learn about their bodies and how to make them work for their particular needs, whether it is correcting alignment and movement habits, rehabilitating from injuries and chronic pain, or conditioning the body to enhance athletic performance.

NATASHA MARTINA
Gyrotonic Trainer Level 1, Gyrotoner & Gyrokinesis Trainer
Natasha’s love for all things movement led her to the practice of the Gyrokinesis method in 2019 and then later pursued the Gyrotonic Expansion System. What drew her to this practice is its ability to allow clients to utilize their full three-dimensional use of expressivity focusing on the undulating quality of the spine supported through the breath. Natasha comes with a diverse movement practice as a certified Laban Movement Analyst; Somatic Movement Educator (BMC®); and Infant Developmental Movement Educator (BMC®). These complementary modalities provide Natasha with a keen analytical eye in supporting clients’ needs whether in the context of rehabilitation from an injury; enhancing their athletic performance; creating more efficiency in their pathways of movement; or simply to energize and regenerate ones body.
Natasha’s early interest in movement began when she took her first dance class at the age of three before discovering theatre at the age of 12. It was the rigor and discipline of the performing arts that led her to work as a professional actor in Canada and the USA before pursuing her master’s degree at Central School of Speech and Drama (London, UK) specializing in movement for actors.
Natasha is registered as a Master Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist through The International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA).

PIMON MARTELL
Gyrotonic Trainer Level 1 & 2 (pre-taining), Gyrotoner & Gyrokinesis Trainer
Originally from Thailand, Pimon studied dance at university and later she worked in various theatres in Bangkok where she utilized her skills as a dancer, singer and actor. Years later she expanded her work into teaching and producing theatre and had the privilege of touring throughout Europe for the Tourism Authority of Thailand. In 1995 she was a part of a Thai/Japanese cultural exchange which culminated in a project entitled The Lucifer Project, which toured throughout both countries.
Pimon moved to Vancouver in 1997 where she studied reflexology and Thai traditional massage and began to explore Argentine tango. Her love for tango led her to perform throughout North and South America and in 2010 she became a teacher. Unfortunately, a knee injury interrupted her performing career and after seeking out different rehabilitative therapies she found the Gyrotonic method in 2016. Pimon credits the method of Gyrotonic for helping her rehabilitate her injuries and for contributing to a stronger and more easeful way of moving in her day-to-day life. She aspires to share her love of the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods with others and help them see the value in the training.
